Spicy bacon wrapped date dip makes a delicious holiday tradition

Danielle Kartes shows off a holiday appetizer that pairs perfectly with her new line of red and white wines.

SEATTLE —

Spicy Bacon Wrapped Date Dip 


Serves 6-8 

Prep time 20 minutes 

Whipped cheese layer 

Ingredients: 

  • 10 ounces softened chèvre or goat cheese 
  • 8 ounces soft cream cheese 
  • 1 cup shredded Parmesan
  • Salt & Pepper to taste 
  • Splash of heavy cream

Spicy bacon wrapped date layer 

  • 2 heap cups of pitted dates 
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil 
  • 2 cups chopped bacon (roughly 3/4 pound) 
  • Pinch of red chili flakes 
  • Salt & Pepper to taste 
  • Garnish with Hot honey, Aged balsamic and Fresh thyme leaves 

Directions:

1. In a sauté pan over medium heat begin to brown the bacon and dates in the olive oil until the bacon is lightly crisped add the chili flakes, fresh thyme and salt and pepper to taste 

2. sauté 10-12 minutes or until your bacon is cooked to your preference 

3. While the bacon and dates cook whip the cheese. With a hand mixer or stand mixer whip all ingredients for the cheese layer and gently smear into a 9 by 9 or similar glass serving dish 

4. Once the bacon and dates are finished pour the hot mixture over the cheese layer, drizzle with hot honey and balsamic and more thyme leaves 

5. Serve with crackers or toasted bread
